You know Russell, we love you, we really do, but the sports-nerd part of my feminine self takes umbrage at your assertion that women should not see The Damned United because it’s a film about soccer (or, as they call it in every other corner of the globe, “football”).
Sport(s) films are actually a genre that many of the women I know really appreciate. Hell, many of them end up being way more sentimental and melodramatic than a He’s Just Not That Into You. Off the top of my head these tearjerkers come to mind: Bang The Drum Slowly, Friday Night Lights and Fever Pitch (original with Colin Firth AND the Jimmy Fallon fiasco about my beloved Boston Red Sox, whom I love with same passion you have for your dear West Ham).
If you’re going to stick with ridiculous sexist stereotypes, then many a sport(s) film is a lady’s cup of tea.
