In case you were wondering, this is how I’m dealing with the news today. :(

If these two kids couldn’t make it work…
When you love someone who suffers from the disease of addiction you await the phone call. There will be a phone call. The sincere hope is that the call will be from the addict themselves, telling you they’ve had enough, that they’re ready to stop, ready to try something new. Of course though, you fear the other call, the sad nocturnal chime from a friend or relative telling you it’s too late, she’s gone.

Just kidding! He’s only been invited to become a voting member of the Oscars. We wonder if Reuters could have come up with a less backhanded way to congratulate Brand, however:
Even after struggling to establish himself as a Hollywood leading man, raunchy English comedian Russell Brand has been invited to become an Oscar voter.
He is among 178 actors, filmmakers and other Hollywood notables invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the organization said on Friday.
Wall Street Journal reports that both of Russell’ current films, “Hop” and “Arthur,” are the top two grossing films at the box office this week.

The sweater: yay or nay?
“Oh, Mandy” is a favorite around the FYRB headquarters, so we are saddened that Mr. Brand did not, in fact, reply when they sent him a copy of their cover of “Arthur’s Theme.”

I’m watching Russell Brand on “Regis & Kelly,” and he’s actually a very clever, articulate guy who is genuinely making me laugh, and I’m starting to think I would actually like him if only I had been allowed to make the decision whether or not to like him for myself. Had he come up through smaller films, I might be a Russell Brand fan, but he’s been all in my face from the very start, and my reflexive reaction is to reject. It’s like when those angry little kids sell candy on the subway, and you think, “Candy? Why would anyone want delicious candy?”
Plus, don’t remake movies that don’t need remaking.
Still, at least there’s no new version of “Arthur’s Theme” by Katy Perry featuring Li’l Krinx.
We understand, Mr. Holmes. Russell’s current overexposure in the U.S.A. isn’t everyone’s cup of tea.
